The 1 cent nuisance

Article Abstract:

The US Postal Service's (USPS) rate increase of one cent on the first-ounce rate has made mailing individual letters a nuisance because of the need to affix an additional one cent stamp to the 32 cents stamp. Unlike postage meters that only require a simple adjustment in their setting to reflect the one cent increase, letter senders will have to obtain the additional stamp to reflect the amount of 33 cents. The one cent increase is unfair to consumers because stamps are prepayment for USPS services, which should be honored by the agency regardless of current price adjustments.

The case for energy use

Article Abstract:

The US should not try to restrict energy use with misguided policies as this would curtail scientific developments that could continue to fuel economic growth. Energy use is being viewed as an ecological nightmare yet it is the key to economic productivity and regulators should be aware that their policies may eventually curtail economic development. Regulators should formulate policies that would seek to increase the availability of energy.
