From salt foam to artificial oysters: innovative solutions to global warming

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the problems of global warming, the causes of global warming, and possible ways to help solve them. James A. Edmonds, of the Joint Global Change Research Institute at the University of Maryland, notes that the problem of global warming is enormous, pointing out that in order to just stabilize atmospheric carbon dioxide levels by the middle of this century would require the sequestration of almost 80 billion tons/yr of carbon dioxide, something that would take an enormous level of effort from everybody on Earth.

The wired ocean: Doing oceanography without getting all wet

The improved quality of the remote sensing that produces stunning graphics would allow scientists to monitor the ocean in real time, sharing data and improving the quality of everything from weather reports to marine species conservation. Some of the available sources of information that include, through use of satellite, acoustic, high-resolution sonar, and transmitters are described.
