Impressions from a NICAR trainer

Article Abstract:

A trainer at the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting observed that journalists and journalism teachers who are quick to grasp the computer-assisted reporting method have common characteristics. These persons are usually good reporters, not afraid to experiment and ask for help, want to enhance their abilities, patient, persistent, and have a basic knowledge of math and statistics or willing to learn it.

FOI advocates, journalists, attorneys and others gathered to share these ups and downs as well as strategies in Newport Beach, California, United States of America in May 2001, for the annual National Freedom of Information Coalition conference.

Court slamming doors on media and public access

Article Abstract:

The important hidden information by the court has prevented many important stories, because proceedings and electronic records are under tight scrutiny in courts at all levels. A model on electronic access to online court records was developed by the Justice Management Institute and the National center for State Courts.
