Robot all-rounders

Article Abstract:

Technological innovations are expanding the practical applications and variety of design of robots. Robotics have been used mainly to improve productivity, flexibility and cost management in the manufacturing industry, particularly in such applications as material handling and removal, dispensing and assembly, and robotic welding. With advances in technology, robots are increasingly moving into other settings including hospitals, railway stations and construction sites. Research is ongoing to improve the capabilities of robots to further expand the boundaries of their application. In Japan, the recognized leader of the six-billion-pound-a-year robotics industry, researchers have developed robots that can scale walls, swim and fly.
