Business news and international reporting

Article Abstract:

The traditional structure of international news reporting, using bureaus of general correspondents, has begun to vanish. At the same time, business news organizations have been rapidly expanding their international networks of specialist correspondents. Ordinary people are becoming less interested in international events, but business news organizations have been forced in the opposite direction by the increasingly global nature of the capital market. The expansion of global business news reporting helps to balance out the decline in international reporting by television and general newspapers.

Hillary and Liddy: old and new stories in reporting on women candidates

Article Abstract:

Media coverage of Elizabeth Dole and Hillary Clinton during the 2000 campaign highlights old and new trends in the coverage of women candidates for leading political posts. Dole's candidacy for the presidency was generally taken seriously and treated fairly by journalists. In contrast, media coverage of Clinton's campaign for the US Senate seat from New York has until now been a regrettable example of the prominence of celebrity in political coverage. With regard to coverage of female candidates, it is hard to distinguish the media and the culture.
