The achievements in the study of communication and personal well-being and the remarkable potential of work in the area to make major contributions to the field and to society as a whole are discussed. The study of the way in which communication creates and effects well-being is an excellent means for showing a mass audience how the research can be important in their lives.

Is 'empowerment' the answer? Current theory and research on development communication

Article Abstract:

Empowerment is considered to be central and needs to be located within a broader framework that sees the goal of development as the cultural and political acceptance of universal human rights. It is said that movements cannot stop their own empowerment but it is important that it must gain respects for the rights of all in the society.

Communication sciences - Instrumentalism vs contextualism

An articulate and precise history concerning the fundamentals, scope and perspectives in the field in view of the two-sided nature of the development of communication sciences is discussed. Methodological problems on the scale of European research depict extreme differences in terminology among national research cultures.
