Article Abstract:

The pay-TV sector is evolving extremely rapidly, according to Roly Keating, BBC Broadcast's head of programming for UK commercial channels. He has had to learn many new skills very quickly, but welcomes the challenges which working in this sector brings. Working in the digital TV sector requires considerable creative ability, according to British Interactive Broadcasting Managing Director Peter van Gelder. He believes that interactive services will gain credibility by assuming some of the values of traditional television.

Mister Modern

Article Abstract:

British Broadcasting Corporation Ltd (BBC) Program Editor Stephen Lambert denies that his program Modern Times is a copy of Cutting Edge made by Channel 4. He wants Modern Times to be humorous rather than campaigning. Modern Times has a weekly audience of around 2.7 million people. Lambert is also working on other documentaries for the BBC whilst editing 20 Modern Times programs each year. It has been predicted that Lambert will eventually become Head of BBC Production.

Managing director of BBC regional broadcasting, Ron Neil, has worked for the BBC since 1967 when he joined as a reporter. His trek up the BBC ladder included stints as editor of a variety of programs, followed by editor of BBC Television News, and director of News and Current Affairs. Neil has responsibility over a workforce of 4,600 and an annual budget of 500 million pounds sterling.
