High-tech heartland

Article Abstract:

Heart FM, a new regional music radio station for the UK's Black Country, began broadcasting in Sep 1994. It has particularly attracted attention for its use of computer technology to produce a very seamless style of local broadcasting. PC software is being used instead of traditional studio equipment, with Mercury Mail Box allowing multiple-listener feedback. However, the station does not like to see itself as 'automated,' and the computer technology has not pushed out employees.
