Article Abstract:

There is great potential for profits in television broadcasting in Europe. It is vital to develop a sense of the importance of European markets. Television can play a key role in allowing the general public in Europe to share cultural experiences, and for this reason it is essential to have a strong audiovisual industry. This can only be achieved if European countries are prepared to share their television programmes and films. This will in turn help to create more jobs in the television industry.

Squaring up to a global market

Article Abstract:

The UK television broadcasting industry is coming under increasing pressure to take a global approach. However, this is very difficult in a market which is so completely dominated by US productions. In order to become more competitive, the UK television broadcasting industry must produce many more episodes, allowing scheduling five days a week for at least six months. It is also important to tailor programmes to the demands of the international market.
