Tales from the script

Article Abstract:

UK script writer Paula Milne has returned to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to have her series Second Sight produced, despite a previous bad experience involving her script for The Politican's Wife, which was eventually made by Channel 4 and won an industry award in 1995. Milne is still slightly sceptical about the chances of Second Sight actually being produced, although she has assurances from controller Peter Salmon. Milne also works on film scripts, which she enjoys as a challenge.

Jimmy jewel

Article Abstract:

Scriptwriter Jimmy McGovern is not looking to work in Hollywood, even though he has written a number of successful theatrical films. He is still keen to work in television, even though he has had unfortunate experiences there, especially when he was a scriptwriter for the soap opera 'Brookside.' He intends to continue working for the BBC, but also seems keen to re-establish links with Channel 4, for which he has not worked since 'Hearts and Minds' in 1994.

Children's entertainers: children's ITV celebrates its fortieth birthday this month but faces ever stiffer terrestrial and extra-terrestrial competition as it fights to maintain its share of the children's market

Article Abstract:

Children's ITV (CITV) was launched 40 years ago and will celebrate with a showcase of special programmes. CITV's output has adequately competed with expanding terrestrial and extra-terrestrial competition. However the launch of the Disney Channel UK will challenge its position and may erode its share of the children's audience. CITV has new plans for 1996 including a new drama series and a new look to Saturday mornings.
