Writers who wish to see their work published should directly approach editors and bypass all third parties such as literary agents. This direct approach is much more favorable especially for new writers since literary agents are often incapable of selling their work to publishers. To ensure the acceptance of their work, writers should have an in-depth knowledge of the requirements of editors and publishers. Another approach for writers worthy of consideration is to publish their work themselves.

The UK cinema market has seen very strong growth over recent years, and is now estimated to be worth 612 million pounds sterling. This growth is almost entirely attributable to the creation of multiplex cinema complexes, of which there will be 86 across the country by the end of 1996. However, local operators still account for 63% of screens. It is likely that they will have to become more specialised as they face growing competition from multiplex operations.
