Spence calls for 'immediate' opening of Vieques ranges

Article Abstract:

House Armed Services Committee Chmn Floyd Spence has called for the immediate reopening of the US weapons ranges in Vieques Island, Puerto Rico. Spence cited the serious decline in the combat readiness of the US Navy and the US Marines since the closing of the facility in Apr 1999, as the main reason for the need to reopen the military facility. An agreement between the White House and the government of Puerto Rico, signed on Jan 31, 2000, has granted permission to continue live-fire training on the island.
