Armies go for eight-wheelers

Article Abstract:

Armies are using the eight-wheeled armored vehicles with the development by the Soviet Army of the BTR-60 armored personnel carrier (APC) on an increasing rate, as it is becoming their basic equipment. The production has increased on a large scale up to 25,000 units, making it the most numerous wheeled armored vehicle ever to be built, and are widely used within the Soviet bloc and also in Africa and other nations.

Is privatization the panacea for India as it grapples with the spectre of obsolescence?

Article Abstract:

The Congressional Research Service of the US Congress reported that India was the world's leading importer of conventional arms among developing nationals with purchases of USD5.7 billion. If the private industries assume a greater role in indigenizing the products that are imported and modernize and upgrade its outdated arsenal, then the money spent on imports would decrease.

Salyut's private venture upgrades for AL-31F turbines turn to exports

Article Abstract:

The Russian state arms trade company, Rosoboronexport, has signed a contract with China to deliver 180 AL 31F turbofan engines worth USD550 million. These engines would be installed in the two batches of Su-27SK/UBK fighters replacing the original AL-31F engines, replacing the original AL-31F engines, which had a service life of only 900 hours.
