Type 22 frigates upgraded for Romania

Article Abstract:

The UK Royal Navy's ships, Coventry as well as HMS London will be transferred to the Romanian Navy as part of a multi-million dollar government-to-government agreement and both the ships are being inspected for defects and necessary rectifications. The pre-transfer re-fit package will be undertaken at the Portsmouth naval base in the UK and after all rectifications one of the ships will be shipped to Romania by end November 2004 while the other will be sent out by April 2005.

Bowman pulls in its horns

Article Abstract:

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has decided in 2006 to stretch service introduction of the planned initial standard of its Bowman digitization system by two years, and add funds to the programme to consolidate the performance of the baseline software and radio system. At the same time, parts of the system intended to underpin the UK MoD's vaunted network-enabled battlefield capability have had their funding removed at least temporarily.
