ABC of HRT

Article Abstract:

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) alleviates menopause symptoms, particularly hot flushes, and protects against osteoporosis and heart disease. HRT supplies oestrogen and progestogen through tablets, creams, patches or implants. It should be taken for three to five years to relieve symptoms, but for 10-20 years for long-term health protection. Some women have conditions which make HRT inadvisable. Other effective treatments include herbal remedies, vitamin E and therapies such as yoga and massage.
