China makes an example of democracy activist

Article Abstract:

Social unrest and rising unemployment has led China to make an example of veteran political activist Wang Bingzhang to cancel any further anti government protests. The decision to use harsh terrorism laws against Wang, the co-founder of the China Democracy Party (CDP), who was sentenced to life imprisonment being convicted on espionage and terrorism charges, is being criticized by human rights groups and by the US Department of State.

China cracks down on heroin trafficking

Article Abstract:

The production and transit of large quantities of heroin through China to markets in North America and Europe, and the spread of addiction and HIV/AIDS is a growing problem in China. The Chinese authorities are taking steps to integrate the country into regional and global counter narcotics efforts in order to recognize the threat posed by drug trafficking in China.

Nepalese Maoists join with Indian groups

Article Abstract:

The Nepalese Maoists have joined hands with the Indian guerrilla groups and have attacked a police station across the border in India. The Nepalese element, with its large guerrilla army operating in poorly policed and difficult terrain might add up significantly to India's problems.
