Contest for House panel chair may affect Coast Guard support

Article Abstract:

The contest for the post of the US House Homeland Security Committee Chair, which is slated to become vacant if and when the Senate confirms current chairman California Representative Christopher Cox as the new head of the Securities and Exchange Commission, seems to have affected Coast Guard Support. Representative Don Young, Alaska, Peter King, New York, Curt Weldon, Pennsylvania and John Linder, Georgia are some of the lawmakers vying for the post.

House panel readies its own threat analysis as the QDR moves forward

Article Abstract:

The US House will examine threats to national security and the military capabilities required to counter such threats as well as the impact on future budgets and weapons programs of such efforts in a review that parallels Pentagon's Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR). This independent analysis was initiated with a view to placing the QDR into context and to creating a more informed opinion about its strengths and weaknesses.
