Detlef Moog: Chairman Rheinmetall Waffen & Munition

Article Abstract:

Rheinmetall Waffen and Munition has evolved as a high-tech company with worldwide activities in three major sectors, namely, automotive, civil electronics and defense technology, each accounting for roughly a third of its business. It has international shareholders, most notable of which is BAe Systems, with 49% in STN ATLAS Elektronik. Rheinmetall has numerous international cooperation projects, including many in the US. The company has played a pivotal role in the ongoing process of consolidation in the German and European land systems technology industry.

Land of a few giants: German industry casts a long shadow

Article Abstract:

Germany's aerospace and defense industry is moving full speed ahead towards a untied Europe. Aerospace activities are already dominated by the international European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company which includes a 30.3% stake by DaimlerChrysler Aerospace. The German government is encouraging ground equipemnt and naval shipbuilders to follow suit. There is a definite feeling of confidence within German companies which see consolidation of the domestic industry as a prelude to creating European and even transatlantic giants.

The article presents an overview of the Israeli defense industry and critical defense programs. Israel is a major defense goods exporter but still relies on the US for some critical equipment.
