Eagle Eye sets new milestones

Article Abstract:

Bell Helicopter Textron has reported that the performance and reliability of the Eagle Eye vertical take-off and landing unmanned aerial vehicle (VTOL UAV) and its command and control station are outstanding following a 20-second flight of the vehicle. The aircraft's flight envelope has now been increased to more than 9000 feet and 160 knots. To date, the demonstration aircraft of the Navy has demonstrated such capabilities as vertical take-off and landings to a 7.3-meter helicopter landing spot and recovery in winds stronger than 20 knots. Aside from a Flir Systems Ultra 3000 gimballed flir/television sensor, the Eagle Eye is also equipped with air data sensors, global positioning system and three air filters.

Farnborough '98, much about Europe getting together

Article Abstract:

The Farnborough '98 exposition featured no new military aircraft, although it did showcase interesting refinements relating to the Eurofighter, Rafale, C130J Hercules II and Globemaster III and C-5B Galaxy aircraft. While the bias in Fanborough '98 was markedly toward civilian aircraft and much attention centered around the UK's BVraam missile, interesting developments in jet trainer aircraft, military upgrades and electronics attracted much interest. The exposition also confirmed the consolidation trend sweeping the aircraft industry.

Cas C-295 gets FAR-25 cert

Article Abstract:

The Casa C-295 has received FAR-25 certificates from Spain's Instituto Nacional de Tecnica Aerospacial (INTA) and the Direccion General de Aviacion ending the certification program which started in 1997. The INTA certification qualifies the C-295's capacity demands in the military transport markets. The C-295 is characterized by a maximum take-off weight of 23,200 kg, a maximum speed of 260 kts and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney 127G engines.
