Malaysia's Defense Minister, Dato Abang Abu Bakar bin Datu Bandar Abang Haji Mustapha, believes that the role of Malaysia as a stabilizing agent in the Pacific and Indian Ocean areas depends primarily on its economic stability. He stressed that the Malaysian government has tightened its focus on strengthening its economy. This is because it is deeply convinced that this tack is the best cure for all the various economic problems ailing its regional neighbors.
