The Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine features the latest electronics technologies, modular design and construction, and both littoral and traditional deepwater/antisub/antishipping capabilities. The first units will be delivered in 2005.

The tramaran Research Vessel Triton is performing well in testing, and the design is being praised for its lower drag, lower maintenance costs, better sea stability, and larger flight deck, making it a possible warship of the future.

The IPS advantage - electric drive: a propulsion system for tomorrow's submarine fleet?

Integrated Power Systems (IPS) will free submarine designers from the need for two separate power-plants for propulsion and onboard electrical needs. Several IPS alternatives are being actively researched.
