Exercise 'Steadfast Jaguar' offers NATO the chance to validate Response Force concept

Article Abstract:

NATO is expected to announce the full operational capability of the NATO Response Force (NRF) on October 1, 2006, indicating the ability of the alliance to successfully deploy and operate a large force at tactical distances. Exercise 'Steadfast Jaguar 06' held in the Cape Verde islands in June and July 2006, demonstrated the NRF concept and capabilities, with the mock drill including helicopter-borne insertions of Turkish Special Forces, precision bombing runs by Spanish and US aircraft and an amphibious assault by Spanish Marines and Franco-German troops.

Norway evaluates lessons from Afghanistan

Article Abstract:

The attack on the Norwegian-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Provincial Team (PRT) that took place in Meymaneh, northwest Afghanistan has taught Norway's defense leadership to evaluate lessons learned in the aftermath of the serious incident. Some of the main lessons include reviewing air support by fighter aircraft in urban environments, and co-locating helicopters with the Quick Response Force (QRF) that are assigned to airlift the QRF.

Norwegians see battlefield management system as key to enhancing deployability

Article Abstract:

The Norwegian defence logistics organization (FL) is expected to issue an invitation to tender (ITT) for a battlefield management system (BMS). The BMS is observed as one of the multiple building blocks designed to provide the service with network-enabled capabilities as well as allowing it to become lighter and more deployable.
