Fort Lewis gets its namesake statue

Article Abstract:

Camp Lewis, Washington, a statue, which was built in 1917 as one of 16 National Army cantonments for the great World War 1 mobilization, symbolizes careful planning and a well-executed leadership of a disciplined military expedition that is the hallmark of the Army. Maj. Gen. John Hemphill, US Army retired, devised the plant to raise funds for the purchase of the statuses for donation to the Army as a project for the Fort Lewis Chapter of AUSA.
