Portugal discovers a new naval future
Article Abstract:
The overview of the Portuguese fleet will change drastically as corvettes and single Rover-class AOR will replace the combat over centres on the Vasco de Gama-class and ageing Joao Belo-class frigates. The 25,000-strong national fleet of commercial fishermen brings in 152,000t of fish every year, and the 50 million tons of cargo equate to an estimated EUR50 billion (US$61bn) of trade transported by sea.

Spain pins future on role reversal
Article Abstract:
The Armada Espanola (Spanish Navy) is drafting a new role for its force by new acquisitions that would reorient the service for the new operational environment. Some of its new acquisitions include power projection and amphibious forces, supported by carrier-based strike capabilities and land-attack missiles.

The main issues and the challenges faced by the Bangladeshi navy are discussed. It is seen that most of the world's navies are in fact rather small and resource-constrained and the international attention tends to focus only on a few powerful and technologically advanced fleets.
