Fremm European multi role frigate programme

Article Abstract:

In cooperation with Fincantieri, DCN proposed for the Italian and French European multi-mission frigate program (FREMM) a hybrid electro-mechanical power and propulsion system in a CODLOG or CODLAG configuration that acts as a fully automated mechanically boosted all-electric propulsion system. This system consists of two shaft lines with low noise propellers, two resilient mounted and low speed electric propulsion motors, a retractable azimuthing bow thruster and a power generation plant of 4 diesel generators (DG) rated at about 2MW each.
