Having our ball and eating there too: Ethical dilemmas surrounding the Marine Corps ball

Article Abstract:

Ethical issues are discussed regarding the organization of an annual Marine Corps ball through fundraising, and solutions proposed. It is suggested that the Marine Corps could develop a program of ethics training with a specific emphasis on fundraising, solicitation, and acceptance of gifts within the context of hosting a Marine Corps ball, and also consider raising the gift acceptance levels of commanding officers to enable organization of the ball.

Article Abstract:

Leadership is the phenomenon, which in addition to being the motto of Officer Candidates School and the hallmark of the US Marine Corps warrior ethos is required to be learned by the new lieutenants every 8 weeks at the start of a new Basic Officer Course. The Marines consider it as an act of giving of one's self to ensure that they accomplish their mission and return home alive.
