In place of strife: War and peace in the Italian mafia

Article Abstract:

A review of the strategic developments within the organized crime sector in Italy, identifying the increasing links between indigenous mafia groups and foreign organized crime entities that have established significant operations in the country is presented. Organized crime groups in Italy and increasing inter-group links and agreements, as well as greater cooperation with foreign organized crime entities can be seen as both an adjustment to the changes that globalization has brought on the nature of transnational crime and organized crime in Italy and a strategic response to Italian law-enforcement effort.
