India confirms six-boat Scorpene submarine deal

Article Abstract:

The Indian government confirmed its intention in September 2005 to buy six Scorpene diesel-electric submarines for the Indian Navy from French naval prime-contract organization Armarisa for EUR2 billion (USD2.4 billion). The program is expected to extend over 15 years and all the six boats will be built and outfitted under license by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai, India under technology transfer arrangement.

Estonia, UK sign up for minehunter sale

Article Abstract:

The UK and Estonia governments have reached a preliminary agreement for the transfer and regeneration of three ex-Royal Navy (RN) Standown-class minehunters for further service with the Estonian Navy in 2006. HMS Sandown, HMS Bridport and HMS Inverness were retired from RN service as a result of fore-level reduction announced in July 2004.

Norway receives Mine Reconnaissance System

Article Abstract:

The Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN) would operationally deploy the HUGIN Mine Reconnaissance System (MRS) pilot capability after it takes the delivery of the new HUGIN 1000 autonomous underwater vehicle. HUGIN 1000 incorporates a number of enhancements to optimize it for military applications, as compared with the commercial HUGIN vehicles.
