Litton Data Systems: accomplishing C2 system integration

Article Abstract:

Litton Data Systems is a leading developer and maker of battle management command and control software used by the US military services and its allies. The company has produced high-quality, reliable systems for missile defence, tactical air operations, artillery fire control, digital communications and naval warfare. Among its innovative products are the 144 AN/TYQ-23A tactical air control systems and the battle management C2 software developed for the Theater High-Altitude Area Defense weapon system.

Lifting the fog of war: Exploiting Information Technology

Article Abstract:

The expression fog of war describes the uncertainty and confusion that occurs when information is provided to any level of command is incomplete, inconsistent, late in arriving, difficult to manipulate or hard to visualize. The new system-of-systems effort, called POSSE (Portable Open Source Security Enhancement) will provide persistent surveillance and persistent exploitation capabilities that are desperately needed to effectively counter the wide range of threats facing the troops.
