Article Abstract:

Consulting companies, such as Arthur Andersen, Ernst and Young, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and KPMG, are reporting a booming business for the US Defense Dept. These firms are hired by the government to provide their expertise in planning their strategic visions and in reengineering the bureaucracy. The results these firms offer are savings in maintenance and operations costs that the Defense Dept can use for its other programs.

Article Abstract:

Congress has ordered the Dept of Defense to make 33% of all operational deep-strike aircraft and ground combat vehicles to be remotely operated within 15 years. In line with this goal, the Senate defense panel has already allotted an increase of $200 million for research and development into unamanned air and ground fighting vehicles. Some unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturers have proposed to robotize existing fighter aircraft.

Article Abstract:

Military experts generally are in agreement that computers and ever- emerging advances in computer microprocessors and civilian information technology are triggering a revolution throughout the military services. The US has taken the lead in actively pursuing programs to fully exploit these advances in vivilian information technology but there is no guarantee that it will remain dominant in this area.
