MDA completes remote minehunting system trials

Article Abstract:

MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) of Richmond, British Colombia (BC), has successfully completed a three year technology-development (TD) project for a remote minehunting system combining a stable towing mechanism, positional accuracy, and advanced signal processing. The aim of the project was to use data received from a semi-submersible- based remote minehunting system to help make recommendations for future mine countermeasures procurement decisions.

Canada plans submarine servicing award

Article Abstract:

Canada intends to award a contract in the second quarter of 2007 for the in-service support of its four ex-UK Royal Navy Victoria-class submarines worth more than CAD1 billion. The Victoria In-Service Support Contract (VISSC) would provide a total of 15 years support, based on an initial five-year contract with follow-on periods of five years, three years, and two one-year contracts with 'performance measures and incentivization'.

Canadian Forces Maritime Command (MARCOM) is planning to replace old ageing DDH-280 Iroquois-class destroyers and upgrade frigates through a Halifax Modernization (HM) project. The various plans and challenges faced by the HM are discussed.
