Navy moves toward goal of more surveillance with fewer aircraft

Article Abstract:

Naval surveillance experts are moving towards a future of broader, more persistent coverage of the oceans, faster search and localization of targets, and more lethal response that are being provided by a smaller force with less manpower and lower life cycle operational and maintenance costs. The Multimission Maritime Aircraft (MMA), unmanned aircraft, the long-range, high-endurance Broad-Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) system are some of the Navy's new maritime patrol aircraft and unmanned planes that are used to patrol world's oceans.

Hiding and seeking

Article Abstract:

The Navy believes in single-source targeting, a single platform with a terminal seeker on the weapon to refine target position as a next to precision strike, hitting a moving target in poor conditions with low-cost munitions. The Air Force that experiments with a two-platform approach is explained in detail.
