New vaccine maker is sought

Article Abstract:

The US Dept of Defense is looking for new prospective manufacturers of the anthrax vaccine. The search for new suppliers follows the halting of the operation of BioPort Corp, the lone supplier of the vaccine to the US military, after the US Food and Drug Administration found 30 violations of sterility, record-keeping, consistency and safety against the company. BioPort, which has waived its patent rights for the vaccine, has promised to cooperate with whoever will be picked as a second source of the vaccine.
