'Operations from the Maritime Domain' is the main theme of the Navy League's 2006 Sea-Air-Space (SAS) Exposition that is being held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C., on April 4-6, 2006. The SAS offers a unique opportunity for vital decision makers in the US military and government to meet and mingle with defense contractors, research and development specialists and foreign military attaches.

Article Abstract:

Mexico, Canada and the US agree to promote short-sea shipping along their coasts and waterways. The rising cost of fuel is changing the pricing equation between short-sea shipping and other modes transportation whereas some experts expects that greater use of shipping reduce highway accidents and financial loss on the nation's roads.

Border crossings: Terrorists' arrests and empty rafts in Niagara galvanize the US Coast Guard's 'sleepy 9th'

The 9th Coast Guard District who once had the reputation as the 'sleepy 9th' has missions that include safety and search and rescue. They have about 5.4 million recreational boats in the 9th's area of responsibility that aids to navigation, ice breaking, maritime security and marine inspections among others.
