Separatist sentiments in Papua give Indonesia cause for concern

Article Abstract:

Even though Papua's insurgency offers little organized threat to the central and provincial governments in Jakarta or Jayapura, anti-government protests and renewed violence in the province suggest that the 45 year-long separatist movement since the 1960s is gaining in momentum. Due to the strong support for a separate state among the population and delays in implementing autonomy legislation by the central government, Papua is a troublesome region for Indonesia.
