Unit operations center getting high marks in Iraq

Article Abstract:

Marine Corps have setup unit operations center (UOC), which integrate nonsecure and secret voice, data communications, voice over Internet protocol (VOIP), and networked servers. A brief description on UOC's achievements in Iraq operations and its training approach, technology and modernization, and its fiscal year 2005 upgrades and their improvements is presented.

Article Abstract:

The Marine aviators 3d battalion, 7th Marines (3/7) flying in support of coalition operations during their deployment to Iraqi city of Ramadi effectively used aviation ordnance. The adaptation of tactical reference points (TRPs), a doctrinal tool, to the urban environment proved useful to all Marines in the city.

Seeing the enemy

Article Abstract:

The increasingly high cost of modern combat aircraft has forced the commanders of small units to discover the enemy the old-fashioned way. The experience of this small units team demonstrates what can be achieved by rapid, focused experimentation where the requisite support and technical expertise are available.
