Strategic control

Article Abstract:

US Air Force officials are developing a novel concept, called Strategic Control, which aims to make the US military relevant regardless of world conditions. Strategic Control is offered as a new guide in the absence of a coherent US military policy framework in the aftermath of the Cold War. Key elements of Strategic Control include: rapid seizure of initiative in any military action, minimizing use of violence as political tool, control of the enemy's ability to act and giving national leaders the maximum number of choices to address the problem.

Pentagon rejects split up of JSF program

Article Abstract:

The Defense Dept has dismissed a proposal to split the Joint Strike Fighter program contract and farm out the work to bolster the fighter industrial manufacturing base. Pentagon officials argue that aircraft manufacturers between 2001 and 2020 will continue to have sufficient work especially in the areas of unmanned aerial vehicles and aircraft upgrades. Thus, the aircraft industry would be able to maintain a strong business base.

The concepts of new transports are already taking shape, even as the Pentagon and the Air Force are struggling to define the right numbers of C-17s, C-5s, and C-130Js to sustain the military airlift requirements for the midterm. The new aircraft, dubbed Advanced Mobility Concept, or AMC-X, is the new tactical transport that fulfils a variety of airlift and special operations roles.
