Strategic sealift ships

Article Abstract:

The Army has started acquiring large, medium-speed, roll-on/roll-off (LMSR) sealift ships to satisfy the service's mobility requirements. The initial LMSRs are former container ships converted into roll-on/roll-off configuration. The Army's experience in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm is partly responsible for the requirement for 19 Navy LMSRs, eight ships for prepositioning and the other 11 for moving equipment from the US. Aside from the seven new Watson-class LMSRs, six new Bob Hope-class LMSRs are under construction. The first eight newly constructed ships will perform the prepositioning role while the rest will be on the surge role.

Article Abstract:

The US Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) has developed Overwatch Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ACTD) to provide targeting information to warfighters by detecting, locating and classifying weapons fire. The Overwatch ACTD focus is to provide ground forces with actionable and targetable information of hostile fire events in real time to enable counter attack or targeting in complex terrain.
