Tadic victory raises hopes for Balkan stability

Article Abstract:

The victory of Democratic Party (DS) candidate Boris Tadic in the second round of the Serbian presidential election against his opponent, the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) candidate Tomislav Nikolic has led prospects for progress in stabilizing the Balkan region. His victory should reinforce Serbia and Montenegro's efforts to join the EU, NATO and its Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme, as well as to reform its security apparatus.

Iraq attempts to improve border security

Article Abstract:

Iraq is making efforts to improve border security, as porous borders allow foreign militants easy access to the country. Iraq is trying to improve current situation through regional cooperation and deployment of new border security units inside Iraq and the specialized security forces would investigate the infiltration of terrorists to launch military operations and prevent such infiltrations.

Mahdi Army uprising poses challenge to Iraqi government

Mahdi Army is creating problems to the Coalition forces in Iraq despite an earlier peace deal. The dynamics of the latest violence in Iraq and the position of the militia's leader, Moqtada al-Sadr, are discussed.
