The Navy-Marine Corps VTUAV system

Article Abstract:

Northrop Grumman Corp has received an order for its vertical-takeoff-and- landing tactical unmanned aerial vehicle from the Program Executive Office for Cruise Missiles and Joint Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (VTUAV). The contract, valued at $93.7-million cost-plus-incentive-fee, is aimed at replacing the legacy Pioneer UAV in the Marine Corps as well as the Navy. The Model 379 VTUAV is expected to provide the Navy-Marine Corps Team until 2003 with near-real-time and real-time data for their reconnaissance, surveillance, target-acquisition and intelligence missions.

Northrop Grumman team to build Navy VTUAV

Article Abstract:

Northrop Grumman has been chosen by the US Navy to build the service's first Vertical Takeoff and Landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (VTUAV). The $93.7 million, engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) contract calls for the development of one VTUAV and options for three low-rate initial production VTUAVs. The VTUAV, which is expected to enter service in 2003, is designed to operate from any helicopter-capable ship to perform reconnaissance and targeting missions.
