The rest of the story

Article Abstract:

The author, who worked for the Technical Manpower Requirements Branch Division, Air, at the HeadQuarters Marine Corps (HQMC) in the mid-1960s, explains that more pilots were lost due to separation than those retained on active duty at that time. To counter this problem, it was decided to use Army trained helicopter pilots and USAF trained jet pilots who were graduates of The Basic School (TBS) in order to give them the status of officers in training as opposed to uncommissioned aviation cadets. This explains why 15 officers of the TBS class 6-67 attended USAF flight training.

Conducting public affairs at the little and of the operational spectrum

Article Abstract:

III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) sent a small disaster assistance response team (DART) to the devastated island of Sumatra, and within days the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) carrier strike group (CSG) and the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) expeditionary strike group (ESG) arrived to begin flying flood, water, and medical supplies to the survivors. The tsunami relief effort posed several problems, not only at operational level but also in the realm of public affairs (PA).
