The shortfall in science and technology

Article Abstract:

A report published by the Air Force Assn's Science and Technology Committee shows the Air Force lags behind the Army and Navy on the amount that it spends on science and technology (S&T) since the end of the Cold War. The report claims that new technologies such as directed energy, miniaturized munitions and electronic countermeasures may not be included into Air Force systems to be fielded through 2020. The decline in S&T spending should be a concern to the Air Force since it derives its core competencies and mission capabilities from advanced technology and not from massive manpower.
