U.S. VISIT program could have major downstream implications

Article Abstract:

The main purpose of the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) U.S. VISIT (United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology) is to enhance the traffic flow of travelers entering or exiting the United States on legitimate business and prevent others who do not meet the legitimate-business criteria. This tool will be in its first phase of operation at international air and sea ports of entry into the United States by the end of 2003.

A maritime challenge of staggering dimensions

Article Abstract:

Efforts made by the Department of Homeland Security and two of its principal components, the US Coast Guard and the new Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to keep a emaritime 9/11E from happening is presented. The Coast Guard and CBP have allocated additional manpower to their respective port- and cargo-security missions.

House votes major increase in Homeland Security funding

Article Abstract:

The US House has approved a major increase in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding for the fiscal year 2004. Some of the senior House members are skeptical about the increase in the amount, which is almost $1 billion, for the White House Port Security Plan.
