USA boosts S American defense links

Article Abstract:

The American conference, which was convened by the University of Miami from 24 March 2003, brought together military officers, intelligence officials, and diplomats from across the Americas to debate the challenges and bottlenecks to building greater security in the region. The delegates stated that the US military needed to form stronger links with its counterparts in Latin America if it wants to prevent new security threats to the USA.

USA aims for total awareness

Article Abstract:

The US government is planning to introduce Total Information Awareness (TIA), a system to create risk profiles for millions of US citizens, based on a wide range of personal information and their patterns of behavior, in order to counter terrorist threats. The Pentagon hopes the system will revolutionize its ability to detect and identify terrorists, decipher their plans and allow pre-emptive action to defeat possible attacks.

Keeping intelligence objective

Article Abstract:

An objective air gap between intelligence analysts and politicians and a three-tiered approach to analysis is necessary if the intelligence process is to modernize and face security threats since September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the US. The reports of various intelligence reform committees have highlighted the need for a new approach to intelligence-gathering.
