A publisher out of sync with the times: some of Canada's top journalists hone their skills thanks to the courage of the Brandon Sun's Lew Whitehead

Article Abstract:

Whitehead, publisher of the Brandon Sun for many years, died in Aug 1996. The Brandon Sun was one of the last independent newspapers in Canada when Whitehead sold the paper in 1986. Many prominent Canadian journalists got their start at the paper, which emphasized quality and integrity.

Article Abstract:

Antismoking advocates are waging a campaign trying to get the National Arts Centre and other arts organizations from accepting money from tobacco interests. The Canadian federal government is primarily to blame for this problem because it does not adequately fund the arts.
