Cable modem users find snag

Users of cable modem, which provides high speed Internet access, are facing service problems, including busy signals. Consumers complain of glitches in the services offered by Internet service providers for cable firms Time Warner's Road Runner and oHome Network, a partnership of Tele-Communications Inc., Comcast and Cox. These cable modems, which are digital boxes attached to the back of PCs, deliver TV-like audio and video. Providers of these cable modems are also studying whether they should roll out rate hikes soon.

Billboards help media firms weather slowdown

Billboard and mass-transit ads continues to buck the trend of softtening media ad grwoth with steady revenue growth. While the overall ad market is seeing a slowdown, the outdoor advertising sector has been resilient. Approximately $5.2 billion was spent on billboards and mass-transit ads in 2000, up from $4.8 billion in 1999. While annual radio ad revenue growth has risen froom 20% to 9% and continues to drop, billboard ad growth is expected to keep at least a steady 9% growth wellinto 2001.

Web sites give surfers more to browse: glossy magazines

Article Abstract:

Web sites are becoming the fastest growing sector of the magazine industry. To supplement their sites, several online companies, which include Expedia, Nerve, Travelocity and eBay, have launched full-color, glossy magazines. The strategy capitalizes on an established niche audience which consist of databases of hundreds of thousands of regular users. The launching of the magazines will serve as a test for the power of the Internet to sign up subscribers for print publication.
