Article Abstract:

The Electronic Signatures in Global Commerce Act of 2000 was signed into law on June 30, 2000 by Pres. Clinton. The law recognizes electronic signatures as having the same legal status as traditional signatures. The use of digital signatures is expected to lower the costs of doing business and to automate 80% of all financial transactions by the year 2006. F.B.I. use of new technology to gather evidence challenged

Article Abstract:

When Philip R. Zimmermann created the encryption program called PGP, standing for Pretty Good Privacy, he knew it would be used for bad along with the good. It is what Nicodemo S. Scarfo Jr. used to encrypt his loan sharking files where he documented that the annual interest rate was 152%. The FBI used an invasive technology to make that determination, and it is that technology that records every keystroke, that is of privacy concern. It's a Fourth Amendment issue that is a variant of evidence collection by search warrants or wire taps.

Article Abstract:

The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) is launching a new organization, Operation Slam Spam, to work with federal law enforcement agencies to stop illegal bulk EMail that interferes with legitimate marketing endeavors via the Internet. The DMA effort is a voluntary strategy to offset proposed legislation that would be even more forceful in its anti-spam content than desired by the DMA's 4,700 members. The organization is seeking support from Microsoft which it feels could impact other industry participants in fighting illegal spam, but Microsoft has yet to commit to any campaign.
