Labor slips at the start

Article Abstract:

In Australia, Kim Beazley, the candidate of the Labor Party. seems to be the underdog in the campaign leading up to the Oct. 1998 federal election. The party will make a campaign against the proposed government sales tax (GST) of the Coalition the central aspect of its campaign. The Coalition likely will fight back with a fear campaign, perhaps asserting that Gareth Evans, the Labor Party choice for treasurer of the country, would be an unfortunate choice when so much economic turmoil is expected.

Agency move gives lie to Labor's poll prediction

Article Abstract:

The Australian Labor Party may have made a mistake in changing its advertising agency when the Jul 4, 1998, election is just months away. The party's no new uranium mines policy is a politically risky move that would end the development of several proposed new mines. Both the Labor Party and the Coalition need to improve their industrial policy.
