Madison Ave. rushes to complete several deals before an extra-long holiday weekend occurs

Article Abstract:

Many advertising agencies are trying to tie-up new ad deals with several companies before the long July Fourth holiday weekend. Because the July Fourth holiday falls on a Tuesday in 2000, the agencies are scheduled to close early on Friday June 30 and not open again until Wednesday July 5, 2000.

Overall $250 mil in ad industry contracts were reassigned. B Com3 Group won $140 mil account from the USPS and another $37 mil deal from Showtime Networks. Unilever awarded work to Digital@JST and OgilvyOne, both of New York.

Amazon.com has consolidated its account with Wieden & Kennedy. Energizer Battery Co. has consolidated its account with the Playa del Rey, California office of TBWA/Chiat/Day. Dial Corp. has excluded DDB, after 21 years, from its account review. Visa USA is reviewing its interactive account. The Wall Street Journal-Europe has asked seven agencies to present ideas for project work.
