Olympic sponsors run spending obstacle course

Article Abstract:

IBM's decision to dump its Olympic sponsorship has caused other sponsors to wonder how the move will affect them. According to IBM's Abby Kohnstamn, the firm moved not to renew because of the staggering costs of Olympic sponsorship. While worldwide Olympic sponsorship fees are around $40 million, IBM's costs reportedly exceeded $100 million. However, officials of the International Olympic Committee assured other sponsors that IBM's case is an isolated one and is not expected to affect any other Olympic sponsorship.
